How to Persevere as a Homeschool Mom (or Dad)

We often hear of homeschool burnout. When I hear of that happening, I'm often curious about why the family decided to homeschool in the first place. I think there are many who homeschool for good reasons...but not great reasons. And when that's the case, I think some folks get going when the going gets tough.

And homeschooling is tough to be sure. That's why you always have go back to first principles: Why you chose to homeschool in the first place (and was it a sufficient reason)? When you really have a firm grasp on why you have chosen to homeschool, you can go back to those reasons and principles to give you focus and strength during the hard times (and there are plenty of hard times to be sure).
By the way, if dads at home aren't "homeschool dads" then its awfully hard for homeschool moms to stay inspired and encouraged to persevere. Michael Farris said that dads need to be Head Masters and/or Principals of the homeschool...always keeping up with what's going on and how he can serve his indispensable teacher of the year...every year.

I thought this article by Katharine Trauger at CrossWalk was a great article for homeschool moms to be encouraged to keep on keeping on.

Enjoy...and Stand Firm,

Dale
